Type-U Reef

Home’ster offers various types of artificial reefs. The “Type-U Reef” is an improved habitat for juvenile lobsters as well as for full-grown adult lobsters. This artificial reef is particularly well suited for hard and uneven substrates, no matter how it sits on the seabed. With its many openings, the reef offers safe shelter to marine life, such as lobsters. The “Type-U Reef” weighs 54 lb and is designed to withstand strong ocean currents.

Home’ster reefs have a rough surface, making it easier for algae to attach to them. Lobsters prefer to hide in openings that are covered by algae. Algal cover can also reduce the effects of ocean currents close to the substrate, as well as serve as a barrier for light penetration, which is a boon for lobsters.

Type-U180 Reef

The Type-U180 reef is an innovative multi-sided design that meets the requirements of fishermen and aquatic science biologist recommendations. This reef is a 180-degree design and like the Type-S reef, it still sits on the seabed to provide ideal shelter for juvenile and adult lobsters. An interesting feature of the U180 reef is that at the end of the large opening, there is an angled wall that activates the lobster's natural instinct to dig a safe shelter below the flat part of the reef (contour effect). With a weight of 57 lb, it is easy to handle and will withstand strong ocean currents.

Type-S Reef

The “Type-S Reef” weighs 40 lb and is designed to withstand strong ocean currents. Also, the reef’s low-profile design significantly reduces turbulence, which in turn reduces the risk of silting. The base of the “Type-S Reef” offers firm support to help prevent it from sinking into the seabed’s soft-bottom substrate.
